Welcome to the Diet Special Interest Group,
We are excited about your interest in the HCHS/SOL Diet Special Interest Group (SIG). Our group provides a forum for collaboration and discussion of all issues and topics related to dietary intake and supplement use such as: 1) Manuscript ideas; 2) Analytic and methodological challenges; 3) Presentations of findings; 4) Ancillary study proposal ideas, and 5) Article Reviews. Our SIG members come from different disciplines, including epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, nutrition, and others. We have members at different career stages. The HCHS/SOL Diet calls are on the second Friday of every other month (odd months) at 1:00 pm Eastern Time. Members may participate in some or all meetings as their schedules allow.
HCHS/SOL is a cohort study of 16,415 Hispanic/Latino adults aged 18-74 years from randomly selected households in four US cities (Chicago, Miami, Bronx, San Diego) with baseline clinic examination (2008-2011), second clinic examination (2014-2017), third clinic examination (2020-2024), and on-going yearly telephone follow-up assessments. As part of the HCHS/SOL baseline exam, dietary intake was assessed with two 24-hour dietary recalls to ALL Cohort. Both 24hr dietary recalls were conducted using the NDSR software (University of Minnesota) which employs the multiple pass method. The NDSR Dietary Supplement Assessment Module (DSAM) was used for the 24-hour dietary recall. This assessment utilizes the most currently available NHANES Supplement Database with enhancements and allows for the collection of 24-hour and/or 30-day intake of all dietary supplements and antacids. At one-year follow-up call a 115 food items Food Propensity Questionnaire (FPQ) was administered.

The HCHS/SOL Ancillary Study “SOL Nutrition & Physical Activity Assessment Study (SOLNAS)” collected biomarker and self-report measures of dietary intake in a subsample (n=476) from HCHS/SOL cohort to estimate calibrated energy, protein, potassium and sodium dietary intake.
