Propose a Consortium

How HCHS/SOL defines Consortia

As an organized group of scientific investigators who have agreed to participate in cooperative research efforts towards a shared goal. This cooperation usually involves multiple institutions or organizations over an extended period of time and has its own governance structure, such as Steering and Publications committees. Consortia are able to address scientific questions that cannot be addressed via individual studies due to scope, resources, population characteristics or size, and/or expertise.

Steps to request the involvement of HCHS/SOL in the Consortium

  1. Identify Sponsorship and Collaborate - Must be a HCHS/SOL PI or Co-PI. Investigators outside the HCHS/SOL network must identify a HCHS/SOL parent study PI or Co-PI who will support, review, and sponsor consortium-related proposals (manuscripts and/or ancillary studies).
  2. Submit Consortium Proposal

Policy Summary

Consortia must identify a sponsoring HCHS/SOL parent study PI or Co-PI and submit both a Consortium Form and the appropriate proposal through the HCHS/SOL review process—either a manuscript proposal to the Publications Committee for use of existing data only, or an Ancillary Study proposal to the ASC if generating new data or seeking funding. Once approved, a HCHS/SOL liaison is appointed to oversee policy adherence, facilitate DUAs and data transfer, ensure appropriate authorship representation, and provide ongoing reporting of consortium-related activities.
